Tipster Interview: TipData

Posted: 24th February 2009

Here is another tipster interview, this time with top TipData (Andy) who is currently sitting in 12th position in the overall table with over 200 points of profit from mainly laying horses.

His impressive tipping record currently stands at:-

Total tips: 576, Won: 497, Lost: 79
Overall Strike Rate: 86%

Longest winning sequence (LWS): 39
Longest losing sequence (LLS): 3

Overall profit: +213 points

Q.) How did you first get involved in betting?
A.) My first bet was many years ago in the Grand National but with no fairy tale start, it lost! However, I was hooked.

Q.) What one piece of advice would you give to a total newcomer to online betting?
A.) Set up a 'Betting Bank' and use this money only to bet with. This will give a clear indication of how you are doing.

Q.) Can you give any indication of how you arrive at your selections such as form study or the use of systems, tools, web sites etc.?
A.) Up to about 18 months ago, I was betting horses to win with moderate success. I then decided to try my hand at laying and have concentrated on this medium since then.

Over this time, I have put together 4 laying methods which are proving to serve me well. All were paper tested for 3 months with the selection process continually being tweaked until I was satisfied with the results and potential profitability to 1 point level stakes. Each method has its own betting bank.

I use the Racing Post web site each evening to find my selections, concentrating mainly on the first four in the betting forecast in selected races. Odds not less than 2/1 and no more than 7/1. Each selection must then pass 5 filters that I have devised to make it a 'Definate Lay'. This usually takes me about 40 minutes from start to finish.

To place my bets, I use a BOT with Minimum & Maximum odds set in line with the forecast prices.

Q.) What changes or improvements would you like to see on Betfinder?
A.) I would replace the Mid Yr. column and replace it with R.O.I. Inputting the maximum of 5 selections and clicking just once to confirm would certainly speed up the process.

Q.) What do you like/dislike most about the Betfinder Tipster League?
A.) Would prefer to be tipping against other horse tipsters only making it more of a level playing field. However, I like the challenge in trying to reach the Top Ten each month and you never know, might make the Top Ten for the year!

Q.) What is the most costly lesson you have ever made when either betting or trading?
A.) Chasing losses in my early days by backing odds-on 'certs' which invariably lost!

Q.) Which sports do you specialise in, and why?
A.) I have no interest in betting on other sports and only lay horses in the UK: Flat/All Weather & National Hunt.

Q.) How do you deal with the inevitable losing run?
A.) Fortunately, I do not have long losing runs. When they happen, I just tough it out knowing that every unsuccessful bet gets me closer to a successful one. My acceptance level is that betting to win or laying, 100% success is not possible.

Q.) Anything else you would like to say?
A.) Good Luck to all Bet Finder tipsters...to those in the Yearly Top Ten, watch out..I'm coming through!
