Whitlock Wizardry May Cause An Upset

Compare odds on Premier League Darts

'The Power' is the greatest darts player that ever lived, that's a given. Even I have to accept that, despite my ever present desire to take his 25 gram unicorn darts and shove them where the sun don't shine.

What he can do with the arrers sometimes defies belief but one day a man will come along and knock him off his mighty perch. Has that day come? I believe we may have a contender for the role in Aussie Simon Whitlock.

He proved to the World that he has the game to beat anyone by knocking out some of the biggest names in the sport on the way to the World Championship final, before you know who spoiled the party.

On the back of that, he's been given a wild card entry into the 2010 Premier League of Darts where he must surely fancy his chances of beating the top guns on a weekly basis.

It was no fluke that he got to the final. In the past calendar year he has won 12 events, three of which have come since that finals day defeat, which proves he has what it takes to hit those vital doubles when the nerves kick in.

Many great players fail to win big tournaments due to their inability to close out a leg, but not Whitlock. He will thrive on the big stage and no more so than against Phil Taylor, whose scalp he will want more than any other.

The bookies are quite rightly banking on another Taylor victory in the Premier League and have priced the market as such but there is still plenty of each way value to be had and who knows if Whitlock can surprise the fans at a tasty 14/1 to win the tournament outright.

Taylor was recently beat by rising star Paul Nicholson and maybe the invincible tag which 'The Power' carries could be disappearing.

The time is right for the pony tailed Whitlock to become a huge star and I'll be backing him at 16/1 to win the tournament outright and also 25/1 to top the table once the group matches have finished.

RECOMMENDATIONS
5pts EW - SIMON WHITLOCK TO WIN OUTRIGHT @ 14/1 (GENERALLY)
5pts - SIMON WHITLOCK TO TOP THE TABLE @ 25/1 (Sporting Bet)
