The Breeders Cup Classic is the highlight of the 23rd self-proclaimed World Championships of Flat racing which takes place at Churchill Downs on Saturday evening. The climax of the eight race card is the Classic (run over 10f on dirt) which sees the two World horseracing superpowers go head to head with Ballydoyle via the brilliant 2000 Guineas winner George Washington (Currently 8/1 with BetDirect) picking up the gauntlet laid down by the Preakness and Travers Stakes winner Bernardini (11/10 Favourite at BetDirect) in the colours of Darley Stud and Sheikh Mohammed.

The latter is unbeaten in six starts since his debut back in January, and has won his last four starts by an aggregate of almost 30 lengths. He has been given what looks an ideal draw in stall three and looks sure to be racing prominently from the off. Berthed next to the favourite is George Washington and jockey Mick Kinane must decide whether to try and lay up with what is sure to be a break neck pace, or let "Gorgeous George" do his own thing and try and pick off the opposition over a trip further than he has raced on in his life, and on a surface he is not familiar with. He is sure to have his supporters at 8/1 with BetDirect, but not for me.

Earlier on in the card Ouija Board (15/8 at BetDirect) looks sure to start a warm order in the Filly and Mares Turf event run over 11 furlongs. Winner of the corresponding event two years ago, Ed Dunlop's five-year-old was not given the best of rides from a wide berth when runner up last year. The grey three-year-old Wait A While (9/4) has been hoovering up some moderate if valuable events in recent starts and many have her as a home banker. I actually don't think they'll see which way Ouija Board goes and make her the banker on the card.

I wasn't particularly impressed by Aragorn's (11/4 at BetDirect) recent Trial victory at Santa Anita and can see another British success in the Turf mile. The last time Echo of Light (8/1) and Araafa (4/1) met in the Sussex Stakes they were both given appalling rides as they cut each others throat from the front. Both have redeemed their reputations subsequently, the former winning in Group 2 company at Longchamp and the latter finishing runner up to George Washington in a vintage renewal of the QEII. Jockey Jorge Valazquez won the race with Da Hoss for Michael Dickinson in 1998 and is taken to give Jeremy Noseda another Breeders Cup winner following Wilko's Juvenile success in 2004.

Hurricane Run (3/1) would have gone off a short priced favourite for the Turf had the race been run prior to the Arc, but he has looked a shadow of his former self in Paris and also at Newmarket in the Champion Stakes. He may be forced to make his own running, and preference is for his old adversary Scorpion (6/1 at BetDirect). The selection only went down by half a length to Hurricane Run in last year's Irish Derby, and landed the St Leger and Group One Grand Prix de Paris in his Classic season. Easy to back on his reappearance he looks sure to come for the run behind Frank Sonata and is taken to give Aidan O'Brien his third Turf success in the last six years.
